Katsunobu Katu, Japan's Health Minister, said that his government is planning
to make the coronavirus vaccine public by June next year.
Talking to
reporters, he said the Japanese government wants to complete the infrastructure
for vaccine production so that when it is ready after research, it can be built
on a large scale.
Kato said
research on the vaccine and ensuring the desired productivity would be done
simultaneously. Vaccine
production plans are usually not developed until they are fully developed and
approved for use.
Earlier,
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced 300 million dollars for a vaccine
at a summit on the Vaccine Alliance Gavi through video conference.
He further
added, Once the vaccine is ready, we will make it available to developing
countries. Japan is not
the only country seeking a creative solution to the Coronavirus crisis.
Pharmaceutical companies around the world are researching a vaccine for
coronavirus.
Simultaneous
investment in several phases of research in the United States has accelerated
vaccine development. Like Japan, US officials and scientists are hopeful that
the vaccine will be ready in the first half of next year.
Coronavirus is
a respiratory disease caused by the highly contagious coronavirus. The disease
has so far killed nearly 400,000 people worldwide and paralyzed economies. The crisis has
also affected the vaccine system. Experts warn that the reorganization of
production capacity and supply chain is essential to make the vaccine
available.
